Wandaland Waterpark & River Walk

A cultural and economic hub, Wandaland is a versatile waterpark is a landscape proposition to regenerate a former industrial zone in Kigali, Rwanda. Terraforming and remediating in the existing flood plain, this proposal aims to rehabilitate the 200 hectares through engineered wetlands and sustainable features to create a vibrant waterpark and recreational area. This profound transformation from a polluted industrial zone to a complex and ecologically performative masterplan will spearhead future development through design excellence and geomorphological planning.

On a macro scale the site will support a river walk park, engineered wetlands, conservation, eco-tourism, and transportation infrastructure in central Kigali. Within the project’s scope, the proposal includes a waterpark, storm-water retention and filtration systems, sports and recreation fields, parking areas, cycling paths, community gathering pavilions, a forest wedding venue with a view of the financial district, trail network, commercial & retail space with rotational outdoor markets, and an experimental urban park and arboretum based on principles of modern agroforestry.
